Conditionally pathogenic bacterium produces a cure for inflammatory bowel
A substance produced by one of the types of symbiotic bacteria in the gut of Rights, may become a new medicine for inflammatory bowel diseases, such as non-ulcerous colitis and Crohn's disease, reported Medical News Today.
Researchers from the California Institute of Technology under the guidance of assistant professor Sargis Mazmanyana (Sarkis K. Mazmanian) found that the bacterium Bacteroides fragilis, living in the gut, produces a substance called polysaccharide A, which provides prevention of inflammation. This bacterium belongs to opportunistic pathogens, that is, a normal component of intestinal flora, under certain conditions can cause the disease.
During the experiment, the normal intestinal flora of mice was violated introduction of disease microbe Helicobacter hepaticus, which is a rodent disease similar to that of non-ulcerous colitis and Crohn's disease in humans. Mice, which additionally introduced Bacteroides fragilis, were protected from disease. The same effect was obtained in animals receiving purified polysaccharides A.
Scientists explain the mechanism of such action that polysaccharides A stimulates the formulation of lymphocytes CD4 + (T-helper), anti-protein interleukin-10 (IL-10), also known as a cytokine synthesis inhibitory (CSIF). This oppressed inflammation of the bowel wall.
It is estimated that inflammatory bowel disease suffer about a million Americans, and the number is steadily increasing. For example, the incidence of Crohn's disease in the United States has grown over the past 20 years by 400%.

Scientists have linked sudden infant death with frequent infections
Normal bacterial infection may be associated with some cases of sudden unexplained infant deaths, scientists believe the London Clinic Great Ormond Street.
The study, which publishes specialized journal Lancet, analyzed tissue samples of 470 infants who died without apparent reason. Experts suggest that in these tissues, probably had the bacteria that can, in principle, harm health.
Some scientists believe that it is a bacterial toxins that can affect the respiratory system, or nerve signals.
However, experts say: the findings do not imply the need for a review board to care for a newborn, who specialized organizations to give young parents in Britain.
"There is a possibility that these bacteria can be more likely to attend to those children who are exposed to other risk factors such as smoking" Professor Nigel Klein, Clinic Great Ormond Street
Each year in the United Kingdom suddenly died about 250 babies. And while some of these cases associated with infections or other diseases, most of them still remain unexplained.
Scientists know that parents can take certain measures, reduce the risk of sudden death of a child - refusing, for example, smoking during pregnancy or ukladyvaya child to sleep on his back. But the exact reasons why these measures act this way rather than another, do not understand and specialists.
The last time the study does not prove that the bacteria may be responsible for any number of such child deaths, but, according to its authors, suggests a connection between these two things.
"We do not know what really happens - acknowledges Professor Nigel Klein, one of the authors of the study - and certainly can not say now that these bacteria cause sudden infant death."
"But there is a possibility that these bacteria can be more likely to attend to those children who are exposed to other risk factors such as smoking - adds a scientist - so that the study stresses: Parents should follow the advice to minimize the risk of sudden death ".
